Ian continues to film in Fukushima with the focus of his work on the increasing number of children found to have thyroid cysts and nodules.  He has just come back from a week of filming in the cities of Fukushima and Date in Fuksuhima, and his blog posts about what he discovered can be found here: part 1     part 2     part 3     part 4     part 5     part 6 Ian is currently editing this recent footage and plans to return to Fukushima on December 16th to continue filming.

Today Ian was invited by the Tokyo Itabashi Rotary Club to speak to the members about his experiences filming in Fukushima and to present a 20 minute selection of his work documenting the current situation of the children of Fukushima. The World Premier of “In the Grey Zone” was held today (October 6) at the 2012 Camera Japan Festival in Rotterdam, Holland. Japan Camera, held annually in Rotterdam and Amsterdam, is “a Japanese cultural festival with its main focus on film that also dives into other areas like art, music, dance, fashion, architecture, food and many more” (Camera Japan website). Due to extenuating circumstances, Ian was unable to attend the screening in Rotterdam, but he joined the post-screening Q and A via Skype from his Tokyo studio. At last month’s Global Peace Film Festival in Orlando, Florida, Ian had the honour of meeting award-winning author Shawn Small who was in attendance for the World Premier of his documentary film “Ru: Water is life“. The Orlando Sentinel, in its continuing coverage of the Global Peace Film Festival, has included Ian’s documentary “In the Grey Zone” in a September 13, 2012 article that lists the “10 (films) that caught my eye and show the range of topics featured at the fest”. Additionally, in the print edition of the two-page article ‘Peace x 10’, also published September 13, 2012, the still photograph (by Katsuyoshi Ueno) and the description of “In the Grey Zone” were prominently featured (Page 4 grab above, Page 3 grab below, web version here).

Ian’s documentary about the children living in Fukushima, “In the Grey Zone“,  will screen at the Global Peace Film Festival in Orlando from September 18-23.
