The 2012 Rhode Island International Film Festival ended today with an awards ceremony at the historic Vets theatre in Providence.  During the ceremony, Ian was awarded with the “2012 Filmmaker of the Future” award. A complete list of awards can be found on the RIIFF website. ***** UPDATED October 5, 2012 ***** The list of Audience Choice Awards has just been published, and in addition to the “2012 Filmmaker of the Future” award, Ian’s film “In the Grey Zone” (published under the Japanese title “Gurei Zoun No Naka”) was awarded the First Prize for Best Documentary.  A complete list of the awards can be found by clicking the link above.

Discovery News publishes Ian’s Guest blog on “Nulcear Ghost Towns”

Ian’s relationship with Discovery News continues with today’s publication of his guest blog “Fukushima Nuclear Ghost Town’s Secrets Revealed“.  In the article, Ian describes his experiences filming in two towns in Fukshima that were evacuated after the nuclear meltdown, and it is accompanied by two of his recent short documentaries. Since March 11, 2011, Ian has been writing guest blogs for Discovery News, and a list of his previous blogs can be found in the introduction to the blog published on March 9 to mark the one year anniversary of the disaster.

Part 4 of Ian’s new documentary “In Containment” has been uploaded to DocumentingIan Channel. STORY: Ian and Hiroshi enter the exclusion zone, 10km from the damaged nuclear power plant in Fukushima.  After traveling down the tsunami-ravaged coast, they drive through the center of Namie town, which was badly damaged in the earthquake.  After getting out of the car to measure radiation levels, they are stopped by a police patrol and questioned.  Finally, after coming across a herd of cows that roams freely in the exclusion zone, the film crew unknowingly drives directly into a radiation hotspot.

A preview screening of Ian’s feature documentary “Gurei Zone No Naka” (In the Grey Zone) will be held on Tuesday, July 24 from 18:00 at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan, Tokyo.  The screening of the film will take place from 18:00-19:30 and will be followed by a press conference from 19:30-20:00. This press conference is taking place prior to the World Premier of “Gurei Zoun No Naka” at the 30th annual Rhode Island International Film Festival (US) August 7-12. […]
